Rear seat removal
and wagon storage systems

Helpful state-by-state links for wagon owners considering removable rear storage.

A PRACTICAL STARTING POINT

Keep the decision simple and informed.

Rear-seat changes can raise questions about seating capacity and vehicle compliance. The right path depends on your state, your specific vehicle and exactly what is being changed. This guide gives you a straightforward place to start before you make any decisions.

This is general information only. It is not legal, engineering or registration advice. Always check the current official guidance for your state and your vehicle before removing seats or changing any safety-related component.

LAWSON'S PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE

Because Lawson Automotive INFINITY systems are removable and fitted without permanent modification to the vehicle, many fleet and government applications have been able to retain their original vehicle configuration without reclassification or certification. This depends on the vehicle, the seats and safety equipment affected, and the requirements in the state where it is registered.

Western Australia has a specific process for seating reductions and removals. An authorised inspection centre can advise on the applicable local certification pathway.

THE FOUNDATION

INFINITY false floor

INFINITY starts with a vehicle-specific false floor that creates a clean base for removable storage modules.

Drawers, slides and wings can be configured around how you use the vehicle, without turning this guide into a substitute for state advice.

WHERE INFINITY FITS

Modular storage, built around your vehicle.

INFINITY does not require second-row seat removal. Where rear seats are removed for a wagon storage fitout, it is generally the third row or a factory-floor arrangement in five-seat LandCruiser 300 and Prado 250 variants.

Every vehicle and registration situation is different. Confirm the appropriate process before changing the vehicle's seating configuration.

WHAT CAN CHANGE THE ANSWER

More than the seat itself can matter.

  • Your state or territory and the vehicle's registered seating capacity
  • Seatbelts, child-restraint anchorages, airbags and related sensors
  • Seat mounts, vehicle structure or any permanent modification
  • The vehicle model, trim level and existing accessories

BEFORE YOU REMOVE REAR SEATS

Four sensible checks.

  1. Read the current official guidance for your state or territory.
  2. Confirm the vehicle's exact seating configuration and registration details.
  3. Do not alter seatbelts, anchorage points, sensors or structure without the correct advice.
  4. Keep all removed components and hardware so the original configuration can be restored where appropriate.
